This hydrangea flower was also made using the (faux) leather that I found at FabMo last night. You can make it either by cutting the flowers out by hand (which will take a very very long time) or use a die-cutter like I did (which is much much easier). For this project I used a Sizzix Big Kick that I had picked up from Joann’s Fabrics for 40% off plus an extra 20% off. They periodically go on sale or you can use a coupon. I used the Sizzix “Build a Lilac” die to cut out the many many flowers. To finish it of, I inserted a small pearl into the middle of each of the flowers.

To make this flower you will need:
-Die Cutting Machine and Die (or just scissors if you decide to cut out the flowers by hand)
-leather or some other type of material to make your flowers and leaves
-thread
-small beads or buttons for the middle of the flowers
-hot glue gun
1) Cut out your flowers and thread them through with the beads and thread, leaving an ample tail. Pull the thread back through the flower and pull taught so that the bead rests on top. Do this for all of the flowers. NOTE: We will not be sewing the tail, so you will need to keep it long enough so that the hot glue will pull the bead and thread. Also, if you don’t want to thread all of your flowers, you can just use some hot glue or other type of adhesive.
2) Glue the flowers into your desired design. NOTE: If you did decide to use the thread method, make sure that the thread is still pulled tightly and holding the bead properly.
3) Cut out some leaves and glue those on where you want them to go. Cut off the Excess backing fabric and you are finished!
Hello,
Instead of cutting leather into flowers petals with scissors, is there a small machine you can recommend..that will do the same job?
Thanks
-Maye
Sure! If you have the flower petal shaped cutting dies, the Sizzix “Big Shot” (or “Big Kick”) and Provo Craft “Cuttlebug” are good options for small die cutting machines. Personally, I own both. They are both pretty sturdy, but the Big Shot is a little bit more sturdy. Depending on your craft space, the Big Shot is larger and the Cuttlebug is smaller. I like to get my dies online at joann.com when they go on sale for 40% off (which happens fairly often). If you are cutting leather, make sure to get the full sized “Bigz” or “Originals” dies — these will easily cut the leather. The “Sizzlits” are only meant for cardstock and will not cut the leather. Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
